About
Adrian Jimenez Murat is a composer, and future music educator whose work is driven by storytelling through sound. For Adrian, composition is more than writing notes—it is the art of creating vivid musical images and emotional landscapes. His goal as a composer is simple: when a listener sees the title of a piece, they should be able to hear the music and feel the story. If a piece is titled Water, the listener should not only hear the sound of water, but see it moving and feel its presence through the music.
Originally from Mexico City, Adrian moved to the United States at the age of six and grew up in South Padre Island, Texas. His musical journey began in the Rio Grande Valley, where he attended Port Isabel High School. During his junior year, Adrian composed the school’s first Alma Mater, an experience that marked a defining moment in his development as a composer and storyteller.
After graduating, Adrian continued his commitment to music education and currently works with the band program at Harlingen High School South, where he enjoys mentoring young musicians and helping them discover the same passion for music that shaped his own path.
Adrian is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at The University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, where he studies euphonium under Professor Charles Villarrubia. Through both his teaching and his compositions, Adrian strives to create music that tells meaningful stories, builds emotional connections, and leaves a lasting impact on performers and audiences alike.
Adrian believes that a musical score is like a book. Just as an author writes words that bring scenes and emotions to life in the imagination of the reader, Adrian writes music that allows performers and audiences to experience a story through sound. Every piece has a beginning, a journey, and a destination. The printed score is the story waiting to be told, and when musicians perform it, the pages come alive.
This philosophy also fuels Adrian’s passion for changing lives through music, both as a composer and as a teacher. He believes music has the power to inspire people, bring communities together, and give individuals a voice beyond words. Whether writing music for performers or working with young musicians, Adrian strives to create experiences that motivate others to find their own creativity and confidence through music.
